What is the deal with the new cop cars not having a light bar on the roof of the cruiser?

I'm not talking about the unmarked cars, just regular patrol vehicles. I think it creates a safety issue for them & the general public. I'm in New York state & the local police in various towns are doing this, not the Troopers. Nothing is faster than the radio so speed is not an issue. I am sure that they are doing this to try to be sneaky lil fockers

The first guy ispartially right. I think they do this so they can be sneaky and confuse people into thinking they are not cops so they can give out more tickets and be a**holes
The old fashioned light bars catch a lot of air. This reduces fuel efficiency and reduces top speed by at least 15 MPH. If you figure the increase in fuel efficiency for an entire fleet of vehicles, this can be a significant savings. Especially the amount of miles these vehicles are driven. With today's economy many budgets are limited. They try and save where they can. And you are mistaken about speed. Rarely do they chase speeders anymore. They use the radio instead. But they will speed when responding to an emergency. The place I work is located on a long stretch of 4 lane highway. It is not uncommon to see county or state police responding to calls and going well over 100 MPH. If we really need the police, we want them there now. Usually then they speed past my workplace like this, you will later hear of a bad accident down the road. And yes, a little bit of stealth is good. It helps them do their job. You must keep in mind what we tax payers pay them to do. We want them to catch all of the traffic violators, everyone but you. But unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. There is no safety issue. Their lights are now located behind the top of the front and rear windows. You should have no problems seeing them when they are on. You just can not see them when they are off. If you are not breaking the law, there should be no problem. I do not advocate breaking the law. But if you like to speed, maybe you may want to invest in a good radar detector. do not go cheap. With radar detectors, you get what you pay for
Some of those cars are issued to different sorts of police officers ie: higher rank, investigators and detectives. There was a car crash in my area and those kind of cars were parked all over the place
