do certain types of car insurance cover me only in a local area?

My mom just told me that I'd have to get a ride to st. Augustine rather than just drive myself because my insurance will not cover me if I get into an accident over there. Personally I think she's lying to me to keep me from driving far away because she thinks ill crash her car. But her paying 2000 dollars every 6 months for insurance is definitely telling me she's lying about local coverage. Do certain insurance companies only cover you in your local area?

Hello, I suspect you are correct about the insurance. I have never heard of "local car insurance". You do not say how old you are. It is possible that your Mom would simply worry about your safety more than the condition of the car. $4, 000 a year for insurance is an astronomical amount! If Mom is willing to go to this great expense to keep you insured, I think you, in turn, can respect her wishes, whatever they are. I do not mean to sound s y but Mom deserves a hug.
